I have been busy creating a few cards for the shop for mother's day. Apparently this important celebration slipped my mind when giving out assignments to our design team. Doh! It's actually been a good thing because I've had to pull out my stamps and play a little - that's always fun, right?
The new A Muse Gerber daisy is one of my favorite stamps. The color inspiration for this card came from our the new Pottery Barn catalog (Spring 2007). The cover reminds me of our cottage in Quebec... sigh!
I used the Colorbox fluid chalk inks for the daisies (blue Iris and Ice blue). I was going for a beachy feel and their matte finish worked great. The stamped piece is actually mounted on a piece of French Roast paper (looks black in the photo) and it gives the card a crisp finish.
Now, sometimes when I sit down to create cards for a specific occasion, my stamps pull me in a different direction from where I was headed. Does this happen to you?
This next card was an idea I've had floating around for a while. It came together very fast and I just love the way it turned out... looks almost good enough to eat!
To make this card, you will need to do a bit of masking. It's easy - try it! There are lots of tutorials on masking and if you need help with this, I'm sure you will find some helpful information on Splitcoast.
To begin, you will need to stamp the Cupcake stamp in a pyramid shape. I had to practice this several times on a piece of scrap paper to get the placement right. Next, mask the cupcakes and stamp the Cafe table. VoilĂ - a lovely cupcake stand!
I added a few micro dot Twinkle Stickers to each cupcake and then a teeny tiny dab of Diamond Sparkles glitter glue to each scallop around the oval. Sweet!
{this card uses the Marvy Mega Scallop oval punch}
OK - and while my stamps were pulling me in other directions, I also made this last card which I am really pleased with.
The inspiration for the hill concept on this card came from my friend Susan's sewing project. She made "grass" using her pinking shears and assorted green fabrics. Aha! It occured to me that I could do this with paper and my scallop-edge scissors.
I first tried using several different colors of green paper and this worked well. Then I decided that I liked the softness of using the same color for all layers. One of the edges got a little torn and a peak of white showed through. This gave me the idea to sand the edges of the scallops to make them more visible in white (your paper has to be printed vs. dyed to achieve this look). You can't tell from the photo but I used a black Sakura glaze pen to color the tire swing - it has a nice shiny raised surface. My eldest daughter said "c'est fantastique" - I like it too!
Maybe tomorrow I will stamp a few more mother's day cards. <wink!>

Looks great! I love the cupcakes. All three cards are lovely. I don't know how you manage to get your scallops so well placed on the first card...I am never happy with the straightness of my lines nor how the corners meet. TFS! Also hope you post a "guy" card from your class, for those of us far away.
